About the WB Photo Lab

WB Photo Collection

In 2007, the Photo Lab launched an online business called the Warner Bros. Photo Collection. This site offers fine art prints of stills from the vast Warner Bros. archive for direct purchase.

With prints from titles including “Gone with the Wind,” “The Wizard of Oz” and “Friends” to artistic images of the Warner Bros. Studios lot, the Photo Collection brings the history of the Studio to collectors and fans around the globe.

To showcase the Studio’s rich history for Warner Bros. fans in Southern California, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has created a photo exhibition, “Up From the Vault: 85 Years of Treasures from the Warner Bros. Photo Lab,” featuring 165 photographs from the company’s archive—ranging from glamour portraits to publicity photos and behind-the-scenes images.

Warner Bros. Photo Lab

Step inside the Warner Bros. Photo Lab on the Burbank lot on any given day, and you’ll find professionals with varying proficiencies—from scanning, retouching, graphic design and multimedia—processing photographic images that reflect both popular culture and Hollywood history. Whether it’s a behind-the-scenes image from the latest Warner Bros. Pictures film or a decades-old black and white photograph of the Warner Bros. water tower, the images that come through the Lab each tell a special story about the work and history of the studio.

“The Warner Bros. Photo Lab dates back to the early 1930s, at which time its primary function was to take portraits of the Studio’s contract actors for publicity purposes, including for fan clubs,” said Greg Dyro, Director, Photo Lab, Warner Bros. Studio Facilities. “While the photo industry has shifted from a print business to a largely digital business, the purpose of the Photo Lab remains the same—to process still images from films and TV shows into proofs and prints for publicity and advertising purposes.”

Today, more than ever, the Photo Lab continues to be at the cutting edge of technology in the processing, delivery and archiving of these vital images, working with Warner Bros. divisions as well as with other Hollywood studios, independent productions, media relations firms and photographers. For many years, the Photo Lab’s expertise has also been available to Warner Bros. employees, providing developing services for personal photos and offering holiday photo shoots for employees and their families. To accommodate consumers’ digital photography needs, the Lab will also be providing technical support and image enhancement services for employees’ personal photos in the near future.

Always looking to reinvent itself and grow its business, the Photo Lab recently created a dedicated Studio space within its facility. This 19′x20′ studio—complete with a basic lighting package and an adjacent make-up/dressing room—was created to serve the needs of the Studio’s divisions and businesses seeking space for still shoots, videos, executive headshots and more.
